A Message to Kisco Senior Living Residents, Family Members and Associates from CEO Andy Kohlberg
I have often remarked during this unprecedented global pandemic that “it’s a marathon, not a sprint,” and this remains just as true today as it did five months ago. As it has from the beginning, the safety, security, health, and wellbeing of our residents and associates remains our top priority. As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, I want to once again commend our associates for going above and beyond for our residents. The creativity I have seen at our communities in how we deliver services and programs and keep residents engaged with each other and with their loved ones is truly remarkable.
I’ve had the distinct pleasure of speaking virtually to a few of our residents and associates throughout this crisis, and what I’m hearing is while they’d like to have more freedom and the ability to hug their loved ones, what we are doing to keep everyone as safe as possible is appreciated. We will continue to take a conservative approach to loosening restrictions and allowing services to reopen on a community-by-community basis based upon local data and the latest science, while following the guidance of local and state health authorities, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
At many of our communities, we are increasing the frequency of COVID-19 testing for residents and associates. We strongly believe that the community-wide testing is helping to contain the spread of the virus while also identifying any individuals who may be silent spreaders of COVID-19 before they exhibit any symptoms. Our executive directors are working tirelessly with local health departments to implement an even more frequent and robust testing protocol to enhance everyone’s safety. As always, we will be transparent during the whole process and inform residents and their family members when testing is happening and results of testing outcomes.
Throughout this crisis, we have stayed aligned with the changes in federal, state and local guidance, and in many instances, established protocols that are beyond what are required. The following safety protocols remain in place:
- Monitoring the health of residents and associates daily
- Continuing intensive disinfection of high-touch and high-traffic areas
- Instituting social distancing best practices, including at wellness activities and in dining areas
- Providing grocery and pharmacy delivery, room service meal delivery, shopping service and personal errands
- Requiring all associates to wear facemasks and other protective equipment
- Asking residents, when outside of their apartments, to wear face masks
- Limiting non-essential visitors
- Implementing safe and socially distanced outdoor family visits at some communities while encouraging all families to stay connected through virtual visits
Please know that any decisions we make are predicated on the health and wellbeing of our residents and associates. We have asked so much of all of you during the past five months, and it is greatly appreciated. We will get through this together.
Stay safe and healthy,
President & CEO
