Greensboro and Winston-Salem, NC (May 20, 2014) – On Wednesday, May 28th, Kisco Senior Living’s Triad communities, Abbotswood at Irving Park, Heritage Greens and Heritage Woods invite area seniors to have fun like a kid again at a carnival at Tanglewood Park in celebration of National Senior Health & Fitness Day® (NSHFD).
From 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., carnival attendees can join more than 100,000 older adults nationwide who’ll engage in “healthfully fun” activities designed to encourage seniors to stay fit and healthy. From strongman contests and a face-painting booth, to hayrides and pay-per-ride paddle boating, there’s something for everyone. And a carnival wouldn’t be complete without fair foods like hot dogs, grilled corn on the cobb and fresh fruit, free and available during the event. The carnival is designed to offer a variety of activities that engage the six dimensions of wellness – physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and vocational.
“We are excited to be hosting events that are open to the public and promoting senior fitness and healthy lifestyles,” said Maria Connelly, Kisco’s National Wellness Team Leader. “They epitomize the Kisco community lifestyle we embrace, The Art of Living Wellsm. This award-winning, innovative approach to wellness promotes personal life balance and an optimistic can-do attitude for Kisco residents, associates and family members.”
All 20 Kisco Senior Living communities in five states take part in NSHFD every year. The national event is organized as a public/private good health partnership by the Mature Market Resource Center, and is also part of the International Council on Active Aging’s Changing the Way We Age® Campaign, an initiative that aims to shift the way society perceives aging.
