Good afternoon everyone,
We began our second round of testing this past Monday. We have tested all Cottage residents and 80% of the associates for the community. We did have one resident whose results were positive. This resident has temporarily left the community and will return when we receive negative test results.
By conducting this surveillance testing of all residents and associates we are able to discover COVID positive individuals who may not have been noticed otherwise. This most recent person was asymptomatic; they did not show any of the symptoms that have been associated with COVID-19.
It is important to note that the CDC is stating that 45% of the positive cases are asymptomatic. This means that approximately one out of every two people are not showing any symptoms and may be going about their normal day potentially infecting many others around them if they are not wearing PPE and following protocols.
In my daily meetings with associates, I am asking that they assume there are positive cases around them and to follow our protocols and wear PPE. I am asking that they do this both at work and outside the community. We all need to be very cautious as we do not know if we have the virus and may be spreading it to those we love and care about.
We will begin testing residents in the main building this upcoming Monday and hope to receive all results by the end of the week.
I will keep you updated on any changes.
Sincerely,
Geno Koehler
Executive Director
