The holidays are here! And everyone, especially at this time of year, looks forward to spending quality time with family. This year is even more emotionally challenging due to the constraints CoVID is presenting. However, we have protocols, policies and procedures in place that are allowing our residents and families to have that much needed time together.
Family members may now come to the community and provide a saliva sample after signing a consent form which gives Park Terrace permission to receive the test results as well as the person providing the sample. The sample is FedExed to the lab and results are normally received in 48 hours.
There will be a 24-hour window for the family member to come into the community to visit. The 24-hour clock starts when the negative test result is received.
Many families have asked if they can provide their own test result. The answer is “yes”. The test must be a PCR test, not an instant test. The test result must reflect the type of test, the date and time it was conducted and when the result was received. Please note the test result must fit the same parameters as our individual saliva tests as noted above.
Our residents now have more freedom to leave the community for things like going for a walk or visiting the doctor and not having to self-isolate after they return while they wait for a test result. The added pooled saliva testing of all residents each week has made this possible. Cottage residents are receiving a second throat swab test.
Residents leaving for an extended period will be tested upon return to the community and self-isolate while waiting to receive test results. They will be tested again on the fifth day of their return with the same process.
As we learn more about the CoVID virus we will update our policy and procedures if appropriate.
Stay safe and secure
