Dear Cardinal Residents and Families,
Earlier this week, Governor Roy Cooper announced that he would be extending Phase Two for North Carolina an additional 5 weeks. We will remain in Phase Two through at least September 11th, after the Labor Day weekend. During this time, bars, gyms, and entertainment venues will remain closed. Governor Cooper stated that he would like to see the number of positive COVID cases and hospitalizations decrease before we consider moving into to Phase 3. Wearing a face mask, washing your hands, and maintaining appropriate social distancing are the most effective ways in preventing further spread of the virus.
At this time, all current COVID protocol remains in place at The Cardinal. We ask that all residents wear their masks properly when out of their apartment. The mask should fully cover the nose and mouth. Many of you may have noticed some associates and residents testing out our new Kisco KN99 face masks. These masks are copper infused and filter more than 99% of airborne particles. The mask is designed for comfort with adjustable straps and multiuse prior to washing. We ordered a supply of these masks with our Cardinal monogram and they should be in for purchase soon. The cost is $10 per mask. If you are interested in getting one of these masks, please let the front desk know so we can reserve one for you when they arrive.
We hope everyone enjoyed Family Feud this afternoon. Tomorrow morning at 10:00am, The Cardinal will host an Antique Car Parade. Please join us on your balcony or in the main courtyard for this exciting event. Tomorrow evening, we will live stream the Mike Seeger Commemorative Old Time Banjo Festival Contest Finals at 5:00pm. Tune in to Channel 1341 to see the finalists compete for the top prize. This week we posted a special Thank You video to our residents from associates for the thoughtful and generous monetary gift that was given to them. Please go to the video tile in K4 to watch this video.
The Resident Advisory Board has placed memos in all resident cubbies pertaining to the upcoming Cardinal Association Advisory Board Election for new board members in the coming year. Any resident who is interested in being a candidate for a seat on the Board should send a brief resume to the Board Secretary, Deanna Hill, at hilldm33@gmail.com or place it in her cubby, #329 in the South Tower, by September 10th, 2020. In addition to the nominees for this election, the Board is also seeking volunteers interested in serving on one of the 4 Resident Committees. Resident Committees consist of the Wellness Committee, Welcome and Friendship Committee, Dining Committee, and Building and Grounds Committee. Please check your cubby for more information regarding these opportunities.
The Dining Services Team kindly asks all residents to please return the reusable, green containers on a daily basis to ensure that we have enough for each meal delivery. Recently we have noticed a shortage of these containers. We ask residents to simply rinse them and place them outside of their apartment door for a dining team member to collect in a timely manner. We appreciate your attention to this matter.
Next week will be the first week of our random COVID testing. We will begin on Wednesday, August 12th and will be testing 25% of our associates in addition to a percentage of our personal service providers/private duty caregivers. A percentage of the personal service providers will be tested weekly. We will be contacting the personal service providers directly to let them know when they have been selected to be tested. Random testing for any Independent Living resident who is interested in being tested will begin the week of August 17th. IL resident testing will take place every other Wednesday in the Art Studio between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm. The schedule for optional IL resident testing will be organized by hall and will be posted next week. Residents who are interested in being tested may sign up at the front desk beginning on Thursday, August 13th after the schedule is finalized.
Again, we thank all residents who participated in our Resident Satisfaction Survey in July. We received the results this week and will be reviewing them with our Community Management Team early next week. We are looking forward to sharing the results of the survey with you soon. Stephen Mullis is Manager on Duty this weekend and will be available to assist you if needed. We hope you have a wonderful weekend and as always, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mary Casey or me with any question or comment.
Sincerely,
Tom Ford, Executive Director and Mary Casey, Assistant Executive Director
