Dear Cardinal Residents and Family Members,
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported 1,532 new COVID-19 cases today which was up slightly from the previous day. As of Wednesday this week, the percent of COVID-19 cases that were reported positive was 5.3%. This percentage is lower than last week and is trending in the right direction. Ideally, health officials would like to see this number below 5%. Surveillance testing at The Cardinal continues to go well and all tests that were done this week returned negative results. Next week, we will be testing Independent Living residents who reside on the 2nd floor of the North and South Tower. If you reside on the 2nd floor and wish to be tested for COVID-19, please come to the Art Studio on Wednesday, September 16th between the hours 8:00am – 4:00pm. You will need to bring your insurance cards with you this first time being tested with the new lab. As a reminder, Personal Service Providers/Caregivers must come in to be tested when they are notified by The Cardinal. If you have a personal service provider, please remind them to comply with this policy so they can continue to provide services at The Cardinal. If private caregivers fail to be tested on their scheduled day, they will not be able to provide services until they come in for testing and their results are received.
Due to popular demand, the Farmer’s Market and Car Detailer will be returning next week. We hope to have the Farmer’s Market in the main courtyard next Thursday, September 17th from 12 noon until 3:00pm. Once that date and time are confirmed, we will let you know via the morning announcements next week. The car detailer is booked solid this weekend and has offered to return next Saturday, September 19th. If you are interested in having your car detailed on the 19th, please call the front desk to be added to the list.
We received another shipment of N-99 Cardinal Monogram masks and have them available for purchase at the front desk for $10 each. They come in two sizes: S/M and L/XL. If you are interested in purchasing one of these masks for yourself, friend or family member, please stop by the front desk. We currently do not have a limit on how many you can purchase as this time.
Election Day is fast approaching as we can all tell by the campaign adds inundating our televisions and radio stations. If you have not requested an absentee ballot yet, we encourage you to do so soon. We have absentee ballot request forms and instructions available at the front desk. Some residents have already received their actual ballots so please be on the lookout for your ballot if you have already requested one. Once you receive your actual ballot, please make sure to follow all instructions for completing the ballot. Each absentee ballot requires a witness signature, which unfortunately cannot be an associate from The Cardinal. If any resident is interested in signing up to be a witness for absentee voting, please reach out to Mary Casey or email her at mary.casey@kiscosl.com.
Now that Labor Day has passed, we can officially say goodbye to summer. To help usher in the fall season and cooler temperatures, we have scheduled a fall wreath making class this coming Tuesday, September 15th at 2:00pm. We have 4 remaining spots for this class. If you are interested in attending, please sign up via K4 or call the front desk. We look forward to seeing your fall décor creations soon!
We are excited to celebrate Grandparents Day with our residents and their family members this Sunday at our first Grandparents Day Parade. We currently have approximately 16-18 cars participating in the parade at 2:30pm, followed by a musical performance with Paula Snyder in the main courtyard at 3:00pm. Residents with a courtyard facing balcony can join us for the festivities on their balcony and chairs will be set up in the courtyard for all other residents. A special, socially distanced section will be designated for Healthcare residents who have family participating in the parade.
The Flu Shot Clinic, conducted by Hayes Barton Pharmacy, is scheduled for Independent Living Residents on Thursday, September 24th from 10:00am – 4:00pm. Our current sign up sheet is full with a waiting list, so we have added an additional hour to the clinic. A Cardinal Team member will be reaching out to residents on the waiting list with a scheduled time for them to visit the clinic to receive their flu shot. If you have not signed up to receive the flu shot and you want to receive it here at The Cardinal, please let the front desk know as soon as possible.
Mary Casey, Assistant Executive Director, is Manager on Duty this weekend and will be here to assist with anything that is needed. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Tom Ford, Executive Director and Mary Casey, Assistant Executive Director
