It’s been a full week welcoming our new associates Monica Adcock, our new Executive Director, Sam Martin, Senior Sales Director, and Renee Keller, Dining Room Manager. We are so excited to have them join our FCI family, please help us welcome them when you see them throughout the community. We are relieved our tests results have all come back negative so far. If results continue to come back negative from this week’s testing, we will reduce testing to once a week starting next week. If this changes we will send out an update.
We have several community projects in the coming weeks that we want to make you aware of. As a follow up to our recent elevator upgrade project, we will need to install a new ventilation system in each of the elevators in the back of the community. This will require us to take each of the elevators out of operation for at least one day. On Tuesday, April 20th we will take the elevator closest to the Wellness Center offline for the day. On, Wednesday, April 21st we will take the elevator closest to the Chesapeake Dining Room offline for the day. Signs will be posted redirecting you to the other elevators on each floor during this time.
During this same week you will also see electrical vendors throughout the community as we embark on an energy conservation project. All common area lighting will be replaced with LED fixtures and lightbulbs. This project will not impact you directly within your apartment. Please be cautious as you navigate the common areas as these vendors will be on ladders.
We are anticipating our sprinkler vendor to be on site now that Spring has arrived to prime our sprinklers and pump for the duck pond. Our beloved ferns have also arrived out front and in the breezeway just in time for James to give them some love and attention.
I want to apologize for the delay in returning the Grange to you all, and am excited to announce that it will officially reopen on Monday, April 12th. Unfortunately, we will need to replace the flooring in the near future and take it offline when this work is scheduled but do not want to delay you all being able to enjoy it in the meantime.
We have determined that repairing the intercom system is not going to be the most cost-efficient investment as the equipment is over 30 years old. After exploring several options, we have decided to install a landline telephone service in each apartment. We are excited to make this transition because we believe the overall experience for the residents will be dramatically improved. As we prepare for this transition to TSM South for landline telephone services, we need to identify who currently has a landline telephone. If you currently have landline telephone service through Cox Communications or Verizon please let the Front Desk know (this does not apply to cellphone service) by Wednesday April 14th. If you would like to keep your existing landline phone number through the transition, you must provide us a copy of your most recent phone bill. If you do not have a landline telephone, then there is nothing you need to do.
As part of this transition, all residents will receive a landline telephone number regardless of whether they currently have one now or not. This transition does not impact anyone’s cell phone provider. Please do not contact Cox Communications or Verizon directly about this change because they have been known to immediately cancel service. First Colonial Inn will work out all the details behind the scenes. We will be providing additional details regarding the transition to TSM South in the coming weeks, but wanted to start communicating the changes in landline telephone service because of the requirement to obtain recent statements to ensure residents keep their current landline telephone number.
Testing for unvaccinated visitors and families will continue each week on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s between 9:30 am -5:30 pm. If a special request for a different time is needed, please make arrangements by contacting Penny Bullington, Lead CSR.
